Ephesians 5:25,26
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word".
How did Jesus give his life for the church and how does God expect us to love our wives? Jesus said that He and the Father were One. He, as the Son of Man, presented to us in bodily form, yet informed us that He and His Father were One. How could this be, since the Father was surely residing in Heaven? Were They the same being or were They so close to each other, by choice, that all things the Father knew and desired were at hand for Jesus? The many years of preparation prior to His earthly ministry speak to the opportunity for development- to do what the Father called Him to do.
The Father and the Son were very close. Out of that closeness Jesus learned to obey: even though His Father was/is The Power, Jesus had His own will as shown in the garden of Gethsemane and His response to temptation/testing in the wilderness. His response to those temptations was "not My will but Your's be done" and "it is written"; clearly in deference to the Father's will or that which the Father would have done. Out of His intimacy with the Father, Jesus understood and obeyed: He became the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! A Lamb then; the Lion of the tribe of Judah now!
If you want to love your wife the way Christ also loved the church, study to show yourself approved; forsake not the assembling of yourself together with the congregation Jesus has led you to. As you hear His voice of faith, respond the best way you know based upon the revelation provided; give yourself to prayer in all ways recognizable. With this approach, you will be readied to fulfill your call as head of the wife. Just as our precious Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ was prepared, or made ready, to be the Lamb of God Who gave Himself for the church, so will we husbands be.
